Senoqua Martin-Green, featured on the cover of Glamour, shares important message
Sonequa Martin-Green starred on The Walking Dead from season 3 until her death in season 8. She portrayed Sasha, who comes onto the scene with her brother Tyreese (Chad Coleman) and quickly became an asset to Rick’s group. When she sacrificed herself for the good of the group, she was forever a fan favorite.
Now Martin-Green is being featured on the December digital issue of Glamour magazine. She looks amazing with short blonde hair and an amazing gold jacket that accentuates her beautiful skin tone. But, she is more than just a pretty face. Martin-Green talks about being the first female black lead in Netflix’s Star Trek: Discovery and shares her thoughts on important topics including BLM, facing racism, being a feminist, motherhood and more.
Her spouse Kenric Green, who portrays Scott on TWD, took to his social media to share his excitement for his wife.
In the article, Martin-Green shares her pride in being the first female black lead in the Star Trek franchise. She is proud to have representation in this series while portraying such a strong, intelligent woman.
She also shares her reactions to the BLM movement and the racism she experienced when she was young while growing up in Alabama. Recent events this year and many unpleasant memories of racism that she has experienced caused her to take a break from social media.
In much happier news, the Martin-Green’s welcomed their second child this summer, a daughter named Saraiyah. The proud parents and their first child, Kenric II, welcomed home this new bundle of joy.
Having a daughter has made her job even more important to be able to show her daughter that representation and feminism do matter. And, to be able to do in a franchise that has always been inclusive and diverse is even better.
She told Glamour:
"“I believe that being a Black woman at the helm of this franchise is very important for people to see.”"
Congrats to Martin-Green for the chance to have her voice heard in the series as well as the interview with Glamour.
