Morgan’s hideaway on Fear TWD could work, just like the ballpark did (kind of)

When Isaac spoke of a place that Virginia’s people would never be able to find, it was hard to believe. However, now that Morgan has spent some time in the town that was formerly covered by a lake, it looks like it could actually flourish, resembling another shelter seen in Fear TWD season 4.

One of my favorite shelters in all of The Walking Dead Universe was the ballpark. I’ve always believed that ballparks and stadiums could be a perfect shelter if properly fortified. They have fields that can be used for crops and livestock, and the surrounding seats and luxury boxes and infrastructure can be used for bedrooms, storage and shelter.

Madison Clark was able to make a ballpark work as a shelter for over a year, as we saw back in season 4. Everything was going great until the Vultures arrived and started threatening their way of life. Vultures aside, the ballpark lasted a long time, much longer than most other shelters in the apocalypse.

Isaac found a goldmine when he discovered the town that had previously been at the bottom of a lake. On a map it’s a lake. The only reason people would find out that it’s not a lake is if they seek it out, and so far that hasn’t happened. (Let’s acknowledge at this point that it’s only a matter of time before someone finds it…but for now it’s working)

The fact that Morgan’s sanctuary is far more secluded than a giant ballpark makes it safer from the start because people won’t just stumble upon it. The soil is fertile after being under the water for so long, and there are buildings that can provide shelter while new shelters are created. It’s also easy to defend.

We haven’t seen Morgan’s sanctuary since Al and Dwight arrived with the folks from the office, but at this point it’s probably a lot bigger with so many people living there. Enough time has passed so that crops could have been planted by now, and they could even have their own livestock.

The downfall, of course, is that Virginia will be looking for the sanctuary now that Dakota has decided to go with Morgan, Alicia and Charlie. Virginia probably wouldn’t care as much if she had her sister back, but until she is reunited with her wayward sibling she won’t stop looking for her, and that puts the sanctuary at risk.

dark. Next. Fear the Walking Dead has been renewed for season 7

For now, though, it seems like Morgan has found a very safe place for people to escape from Virginia, and it’s possible that it could last longer than the ballpark if they play their cards right.
