Fear The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week: What to do next

4) Figure Out The Things You Need The Most
One of my favorite scenes in the second episode of Fear The Walking Dead is when Travis is attempting to get to Liza’s house to get her and Chris and bring them to Madison’s house. As Travis is stuck in bogged down traffic, he decides to cut through a gas station to avoid a jammed intersection, and, as he waits to get through, he spots a cop brushing off a question from a motorist as he stuffs bottles of water into his patrol car’s trunk. This isn’t unusual, but, Travis notices something that is: The patrol car’s trunk is filled with bottles of water. The cop is stocking up for something big.
To me, it’s a great scene of another of our protagonists noticing something out of the ordinary that most other people in the city don’t. Also, it’s a great scene of someone preparing for the zombie apocalypse, which I always love.
Once you get the feeling a zombie outbreak is coming, you need to figure out what you’re going to need the most, and hustle to get it.
What that might be depends on your needs. If you’re going to hunker down, you’ll probably need lumber, nails, screws, tools, maybe some pipe. If your plan is to build traps and defenses, you may need wires, maybe axes, fishing line, springs, etc. If you want to bug out, you’ll need spare tires, a carjack, automotive tools, motor oil, and spare car parts. Beyond those, a few things that are universal are food, water, clothes, a means to keep yourself warm, fuel to get yourself away from major population/zombie centers, and a means to protect yourself from zombies and hostiles. Without these things, chances are very good that you will not survive.
Once you know what you’re getting into with a zombie outbreak, the next thing you want to know is what you’ll need to survive.
