5) Warm Clothes, Good Shoes, Blankets.

You may not think of it, what with all the zombies and hostiles running around threatening you, but, one of your biggest threats in a zombie outbreak is exposure. If you choose to bug out when the outbreak begins (Or a rampaging mob destroys your home), you may have a long time before you have an actual building to sleep in at night, and this means you may have no choice but to sleep out in the wilderness, or at best, in your car. If forced to do this, you’re going to find that, even in summer, nights will get very cold.

The reality is, the human body’s normal temperature is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, and, even temperatures that, while in the sunlight, might feel sweltering, are actually colder than what we need to survive, and continued exposure to them can eventually kill us.

Now, I’ll grant, you can make fires to keep yourself warm (On a side note: Add matches, lighters, and batteries to your list of things you’ll need. There. You got a bonus one.), the best way to keep yourself warm is by having clothes that help you retain your body heat.

Yes, you may not need them in the dog days of the summer, but…a zombie apocalypse will probably not be that short, and you need to start thinking long-term, like, through a winter…and maybe many more winters. You need to assume that you’re going to have to survive through some freezing nights, maybe even through snowy nights, and prepare accordingly.

On top of that, there’s also a very good chance that whatever vehicle you have may not last throughout the apocalypse, and you will be forced to get everywhere you’re trying to go on foot. A few miles on foot is one thing, but, having to travel tens of miles, perhaps hundreds, on foot? With this being a possibility, you’re going to need a pair (Maybe several pairs) of comfortable, durable shoes that can withstand all the walking and running the outbreak and apocalypse are going to force you to do, because, you do not want to be running for miles a day on bare feet. It can be done, yes, but, it can also expose you to a host of diseases and parasites that, in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, you simply can’t afford, and, ones you wouldn’t be exposed to whilst wearing shoes.

Wouldn’t it be awful that, in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, you were to die, not of a zombie bite, but of hypothermia or ringworm?
