Rosemary Rodriguez, director for TWD, tweets about Rick Grimes movies.
The year 2020 left much to be desired for everyone, which included disappointments for Walking Dead Fans. The season finale was postponed, a new season didn’t begin when it should have, and we’ve heard nothing about the promised movies starring Rick Grimes. Rosemary Rodriguez, a director for the series, caused much excitement with her recent tweet regarding the movies.
On December 28, Rodriguez replied to The Walking Dead’s Twitter post that asked fans what they are most looking forward to in 2021. She simply replied she would like to find Rick Grimes on the big screen.
This caused fans to go crazy, thinking this was, in fact, a sign that the movies would be coming this year. She later responded to a fan who stated, “Everyone, it’s happening,” that this is just a hope and dream of hers for the new year. Another fan asked if she was directing the films, and she said, “No, I wish! I’m expressing my hopes for 2021.”
But, let’s just think here for a moment. TWD has proved they are doing something right as far as filming and keeping their cast and crew safe during a pandemic. If they continue with the steps they have taken while filming the six episodes of season 10, they could easily start filming a movie. The usual timeline for filming a season of TWD would start in May 2021. This would give them a few months to start filming a movie before season eleven would be scheduled to start production.
I think this is a brilliant idea!
Andrew Lincoln, who played Rick Grimes for nine seasons on the series, has recently been involved in a theater production of A Christmas Carol, where he played Scrooge. This was a The Old Vic theater production. Fans of The Walking Dead were thrilled to have an opportunity to see Lincoln in action again.
In an interview with Associated Press, Lincoln talked about the postponed movies featuring Rick Grimes and the possibility of filming commencing in the spring.
"“It does feel like there is a certain sense of positivity and the cavalry’s coming with the vaccines,” he said. “And there’s a real sort of sense of a renewal, hopefully.”"
In January 2020, Scott Gimple told Entertainment Weekly that these films will be The Walking Dead but heightened. This means, yes, they could start filming if the script is written, but the post-production would take much more time than the series does. But, as fans, it would be nice to know that something has started as far as the movies are concerned.
So, maybe Rosemary Rodriguez’s dream will come true, and at least filming will get underway in 2021.
The Walking Dead will return to AMC on February 28 with the six bonus episodes of season ten.
