Sonequa Martin-Green shares BTS photos from Star Trek: Discovery season 1

Star Trek: Discovery season three finale aired January 7 on the CBS All-Access streaming service. But, fans of that series can rest easy as it was renewed for a fourth season in October 2020. Walking Dead alum Sonequa Martin-Green stars in the series as Michael Burnham, making her the first black woman to lead a  Star Trek series.

Fans of The Walking Dead remember her character, Sasha Williams, fondly. Not only was she a powerhouse member of the group but she selflessly sacrificed herself to save them.

Below, Martin-Green shares some amazing photos of filming in Iceland for season one of Star Trek: Discovery.

In the post, she references being spat out by “Molly,” who is a trance worm that, in fact, swallowed and spat out Burnham in season one. There is a great photo of cast members in a hot spring, beautiful landscape, and a gorgeous rainbow. And a photo Martin-Green in her character’s uniform.

In a recent interview with Glamour Magazine, Martin-Green shares her pride in being the first female black lead in a Star Trek series and shares her thoughts on BLM, racism, feminism and motherhood.

This past summer, Martin-Green and her husband, Kenric Green, who currently plays Scott on The Walking Dead, welcomed their second child into their family. She said that now that she has a daughter, it is even more important for her to show that representation and feminism matter.

Up next, Martin-Green will join LeBron James, Don Cheadle in Space Jam: A New Legacy. She will play James’ wife in the movie, a sequel to Michael Jordan’s 1996 film Space Jam. It is also reported that NBA stars Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, and Anthony Davis, along with WNBA stars Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike, will also be involved in the film. The release date for this film is set for July 2021.

Be sure to watch for season four of Star Trek: Discovery starring Martin-Green.
