The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week: A Cold, Cruel World

4) Wool
You want to know what some of those people who died in their cars in the Blizzard of ’78 died from (From what I’ve been told, anyway)? Hypothermia. They froze to death.
Freezing to death, at any time, never mind a zombie apocalypse, is no joke. All it takes is a few minutes in cold enough conditions for it to set in, and once it does, you’re in deep trouble.
What does any of this have to do with wool?
Well, wool has helped people stay warm for centuries in the form of wool sweaters, wool blankets, wool clothes, and wool-lined jackets and pants. They’re ideal for winter and bonus: They’re fireproof.
If you’re preparing for a zombie outbreak and live in a place where winter can get really cold, make sure you have your best wool blankets and wool-lined clothes and jackets with you because I promise you that you’ll need them.
Whether you’re inside or outside once winter hits in the zombie apocalypse, you’re going to need wool to help you stay warm. If you’re outside scavenging, or simply without a proper shelter, you won’t make it far without clothes that can keep you warm. As for inside, yes, you may be protected from the wind, rain, and snow, but remember…there won’t be central heating anymore, and you’re going to need every advantage you can get to keep your body temperature from dropping dangerously low. The more wool you cover yourself with when it’s cold, the more of your own body heat you can retain, and the more likely you’ll survive.
Yes, there are other ways to stay warm, but, just as important as those are, having clothes that allow you to be active in winter during the apocalypse and keep you from freezing are crucial because, chances are, you can’t just hibernate all winter, you’re going to need to go out, and having wool clothes or blankets can help you do that.
