The Walking Dead: New photos from the episode Here’s Negan
By Dawn Glen
As the latest part of the promo for The Walking Dead bonus episodes ramps us, AMC dropped a batch of photos for each of the 6 episodes today on Twitter, raising fan excitement to fever pitch.
Amongst the photos are a handful dedicated to the 6th and final episode of the run, “Here’s Negan.” Based on Robert Kirkman’s comic of the same name, the episode will see Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) reminiscing about his past with his late wife, Lucille.
The first photo from the episode features Lucille herself, played by Morgan’s wife Hilarie Burton-Morgan, in their first time acting together on screen. Lucille looks healthy with long natural hair; both situations we know soon change when she develops cancer.
There are also several photos of Negan, looking very different than the leather-clad man we know – one with a seeming fondness for plaid. In one photo, we can see Negan in what appears to be his walker-killing outfit. Clad in a jogging suit with boots, goggles, gloves and what looks like a ladies plaid overcoat, he is armed with a hammer and approaching a walker outside of his house.
New photos from “Here’s Negan” see Negan and Lucille dealing with the apocalypse.
In a third Negan photo, we get a snapshot of Negan, the high school sports coach, as he dons a hoodie and jeans with a Saviors Athletics baseball cap hanging from his waist. It looks in this scene as though he is talking to healthy Lucille, and this indicates it may be a scene reflecting one from the comic which sees Negan and Lucille argue over his treatment of the teens in his care.
Perhaps the most intriguing photo is of Negan in an armchair attached to a drip, but with his left hand handcuffed to the chair. He is still wearing his walker killing coat but looks more care-worn and has a nasty injury on his forehead. What’s in the drip, and why is he being forced to take it?
We know Negan and Lucille have a stash of chemotherapy drugs in their basement in this episode to treat Lucille’s cancer, and Lucille can be seen attached to the drip in a scene from the trailer. Is Negan being poisoned by his wife’s medication or treated reluctantly for some health issue himself?
We know this episode sees Negan relive his journey from reluctant walker killer to the Saviors leader, who bludgeons people to death with his baseball bat named after his deceased wife. It’s a long emotional journey, but it looks like it will be eloquently delivered in the space of this episode.
Negan’s past isn’t the only thing the episode deals with, as one of the photos for the episode features Maggie. Her return has thrown his rehabilitation into the Alexandria community into question, and no doubt Maggie has a few things to say about him remaining in the same place as her and her son, Hershel.
The episode description shows that Carol, alongside Maggie, is one of the current characters in Negan’s life to feature in the episode.
"Carol takes Negan on a journey, hoping to minimize the increasing tension. Negan reflects on the events that led him to this point and comes to a conclusion about his future."
Fans of both the comic and the TV show will have much to look forward to in this episode on the history and development of Negan’s persona and how the Alexandrians and Maggie will deal with Negan as he is now.
The new episodes of The Walking Dead begin on AMC on 28 February.
