3) Strength

I imagine that, if you’ve ever wondered how you might survive a zombie apocalypse, you’ve realized that you’ll need to run and that you need to be able to run for a long time. However, I wonder if you ever stopped to think about how physically strong you need to be, too.

While I’m some of the scenarios we’ve seen in The Walking Dead may be unlikely ones for you (How likely are you to traverse an abandoned mine shaft in a zombie apocalypse?), there are certainly a few that are not. Like what? Oh, how about having to push back a door to stop an oncoming herd of walkers from breaking in? How about having to pull a friend or a family member out of a ditch or a hole in the ground? Or, maybe, having to haul a disgusting-ass zombie out of a well you may, one day, have to drink out of?

All of those are possible, and they all require strength to do them.

Am I saying you need to start trying to pull trucks or do squats while hoisting 500 pounds over your head? No. But, you should start working to improve your strength. Just like with your endurance, this doesn’t need to be overnight, but you should gradually work towards increasing the strength in your legs, arms, back, and any part of your body that may be called upon to bear weight or lift things.

Just like with increasing your endurance, this is an improvement you really should make because it’s very likely that you’ll need it at some point in the apocalypse, likely at a time where you or someone you care about is in grave danger, a time where you can not afford to have your muscles simply not be up to the task.

Is it possible that adrenaline will kick in and temporarily give you something resembling superhuman strength? Possibly, but you can’t necessarily rely on that happening. It’s much better if you just make yourself stronger, to begin with.
