The Walking Dead: Recap of season 10, What It Always Is

We continue to recap each episode in season ten of The Walking Dead, and today’s episode is “What It Always Is.” The point of the recap is to refresh our minds about all the events in this season. Since the first half of the season aired in 2019, I am sure there are many forgotten moments.

The episode starts with Kelly out hunting, and she starts to struggle with her hearing. She uses her slingshot to take out a wild boar and doesn’t hear the approaching walkers. She fights them off and kills many of them.

Negan, freshly escaped from his cell, takes a break to get a drink of water from the stream. Brandon comes upon him with his knife drawn. He laughs, telling Negan he is only joking, and gives him a canteen of water. Negan, realizing Brandon is on his side, flashes a smile.

Back at Hilltop, they are still working to clean up the tree. They learn that supplies were stolen from the root cellar, and it isn’t the first time. Yumiko confronts Magna as she was the one who was supposed to be on watch. Magna ignores her.

This episode looks at a lot of turmoil in many different characters.

Daryl, Dog and Siddiq arrive at Hilltop. They had been searching for Negan with no sign of him. Daryl asks Ezekiel if he wants to know about Carol and Ezekiel says, “Nah.” You can see in Ezekiel’s eyes that he is still suffering from losing her

Connie has growing concerns for Kelly when the hunting party returns without her.

Back in the woods, Brandon tries to impress Negan with his admiration of the Saviors. He talks about how he heard Negan shot Carl Grimes and Negan gets mad and tells him he would never kill a kid. The viewers all know how special Carl was to Negan. A walker sneaks up on them, and Negan kills it. Brandon brings out gifts for Negan, his leather jacket, and a new version of Lucille.

Aaron is on a bridge and hears some walkers. He goes to investigate, and he sees Gamma killing walkers and cutting their bodies open to contaminated the river.

Negan and Brandon hear some cries for help. They find a mother and son being attacked by walkers in a bus. Negan kills the walkers, and Brandon continues to annoy him with his hero-worship.

Connie and Daryl are out looking for Kelly. He tells her a story about his brother to make her smile. They come upon the boar that Kelly killed that has been eaten by walkers. They spot Magna, who has also been searching, with no luck.

Back at Hilltop, Yumiko feels that she should be out looking for Kelly. Alden reassures her if he was missing, the three out looking are who he would want looking for him. Earl talks to Alden about the Whisperers, who he thinks he responsible for the tree and wall coming down at Hilltop.

Ezekiel and Siddiq are in the infirmary when Ezekiel drops a small metal tiger. He explains that Henry made this during his apprenticeship, reminding him of the son and his pet tiger Shiva that he lost. Ezekiel’s cough is concerning for Siddiq, and Ezekiel shows him an enormous growth on his neck. Siddiq tries to tell him it could be many things, but Ezekiel knows it is cancer as he saw his grandmother and father go through the same thing.

Negan talks to Amelia and Milo, the mother and son he rescued. When they leave the bus, Brandon continues to try and impress Negan with his agenda to recreate the Saviors. Negan tells him to get lost and that he never wants to see him again.

Enter in the Whisperers. We see the group skinning people as Gamma approaches Alpha. She gives her an update on her work at the river. We find out it was the Whisperers who were responsible for the tree at the Hilltop. One whisperer speaks out, which displeases Alpha, and they kill him.

Negan reminisces with Milo explaining airplane travel, getting your first car and nut-tapping. Negan tells Milo he will take him and his mom to safety at Hilltop.

Gamma struggles with memories of her sister and all she has endured while being with the Whisperers. She violently stabs a walker and cuts her hand. Aaron

Dog alerts Connie, Daryl and Magna to Kelly’s presence. She is exhausted and beat up, but she is ok. Magna and Kelly have been the ones taking the supplies from Hilltop. Daryl is not happy about this, but Connie talks him into saying they found the supplies.

Negan, gathering wood, hears Brandon whistling the Savior’s whistle and Negan comes upon him. He has killed Amelia and Milo, thinking this is what Negan wanted of him. Negan pummels him to death with a rock. He grabs his leather jacket, shoulders Lucille 2.0 and walks off.

Daryl and the group arrive back at Hilltop with an injured Kelly and the supplies.

Siddiq radios Dante to get updates on things at Alexandria. He learns that Rosita is sick and decides to head back home. He askes Dante to get Carol on the radio, and Ezekiel sits down. As we hear Carol approach the radio, Ezekiel shuts it off.

Magna and Yumiko argue in the bedroom. Yumiko knows it was Magna who took the supplies. We get a bit of a back story of Yumiko being Magna’s lawyer before the world turned. Magna confesses to killing the man who attacked her cousin. Yumiko is shocked by this information as she always believed in Magna’s innocence.

Gamma approaches Alpha and shows her the bandages that Aaron gave her. Alpha thinks Aaron could be beneficial to them.

Connie and Daryl say goodbye as he needs to accompany Siddiq to Alexandria. She apologizes for the girls making him lie about the supplies. He said he understands family. And, she signs to him that the two of them are family.

Negan goes across the border looking for a fight. He starts killing walkers while reciting his famous little pig, little pig. Beta comes out of the shadows and knocks him down. Negan’s response, “All right, you big ass freak. Let’s do this.”

The Walking Dead will return on February 28 on AMC. This will be the first episode of the six bonus episodes in season 10c.
