2) Some Problems Chase You

One of the main problems Maggie was trying to get away from, the Reapers, showed the primary reason why you can’t always run from your problems in a zombie apocalypse: Because problems can chase you.

Okay, you can run from things like hostiles and zombies (It may even be the only way to deal with them if they outnumber you). But, there’s always the problem with threats like that, even if you do run from them…they’ll just follow you.

Maggie learned this the hard way, with the Reapers. After destroying her new group’s village, The Reapers follow them to Virginia, burning their rendezvous point to the ground, kill around half of what was left of the survivors of the original attack, and nearly killing Maggie and Daryl.

That was just one of them, by the way.

In a zombie apocalypse, you can’t just assume that, because you’ve run away, you’ve left the threat in the dust. A clever or resourceful enough person/group of people can figure out you where you went, and even zombies, if you make enough noise, don’t have anything to cover your escape, or even just have terrible luck, will also follow you. Just because they’re dead doesn’t mean they don’t notice things.

When dealing with zombies, and especially hostiles, you need to take special care to ensure that, if you try to run away from them, you’ve covered your tracks. Running off to the first large building in a straight line from where you escaped isn’t good enough; you need to throw your enemies off the track and make sure that when you do stop, that you’ve left them heading off in the opposite direction.
