The Walking Dead 1017 that beautiful song at the end
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead has aired its first bonus episode of season 10c. “Home Sweet Home” was a wonderful look at Maggie and where she has been. We met little Hershel and some new friends of Maggies.
Carol told Maggie about letting Negan out of his cell and all that transpired after, including Hilltop’s burning. We also learn of another group called The Reapers, who attacked Maggie’s former village, leaving them all homeless.
Kelly, still searching for her sister Connie, befriends Elijah, who had recently lost his sibling. They formed a bond, and in this world, it is always good to have people who know exactly what you are going through.
It was an action-packed episode that answered some questions and brought up some new ones. At the end of the episode, a song played, and I marvel at how well the soundtrack to this series just fits the tone and mood of this series.
You Want It Darker is the song that plays at the end of the episode; who wrote it?
“You Want It Darker” is the song that plays at the end of “Home Sweet Home,” and it is such a wonderful choice to end the episode. The mood is heavy, and the lyrics are so fitting as Maggie walks back into a war-torn Alexandria.
"There’s a lullaby for sufferingAnd a paradox to blameBut it’s written in the scripturesAnd it’s not some idol claimYou want it darkerWe killed the flame"
The song was written by the late great Leonard Cohan from his album of the same title. This song won him a Grammy award posthumously for Best Rock Performance.
You can listen to the version sang by Anita Lester that appeared in TWD episode in the video below. Lester is an Australian-based musician, writer and painter.
The Walking Dead always has an amazing way of integrating songs into the series that are perfect for the emotions we all experience while watching an episode.
Up next watch The Walking Dead’s “Find Me” will air on March 7 on AMC and available to stream on AMC+ on March 4.
