Ranking every season of The Walking Dead from worst to best
By Joe LaBrosse
Season 5
The thing that really makes season 5 of The Walking Dead the best season yet is that it featured captivating storytelling moving at a breakneck pace. It just worked.
In season 5, the survivors were at their most ruthless following the whole Terminus disaster. They trusted nobody but the members of their group and were quick to do what’s necessary to protect one another.
No scene shows this better than when Aaron shows up, offering them a place in Alexandria. When Aaron describes Alexandria and all the benefits of living there, Rick knocks him out with an unprovoked punch. He trusts nobody after the experience with Gareth and the cannibals at Terminus.
Putting the survivors in that state, barely surviving on the road, was the perfect setup for them to be welcomed to Alexandria later in the season. The group struggled to acclimate to life behind the walls after scraping by for so long. And while this drama was a key part of the latter half of the season, there was still plenty of action to go along with it. Season 5 found the perfect balance of action and drama that The Walking Dead is known for while reuniting the group.
Season 5 is The Walking Dead in its prime. Heartwarming reunions, captivating action sequences, and an emphasis on family make season 5 The Walking Dead‘s best season.
