Season 1

The season that started it all.

Season 1 of The Walking Dead changed the game for horror shows on television. Thanks to the intense action, interesting characters, and charismatic lead in Rick Grimes, it was an instant hit. The first season was full of so much heart, introducing us to characters – like Glenn, Morgan, and Carol – that would go on to have incredible journeys throughout the rest of the show.

As groundbreaking as the first season of the show was, though, it clearly shows its age in parts. While these details- the special effects for one – make the first season feel a little dated, they don’t drag the season down too much. Another small criticism is the inclusion of intelligent zombies (picking up rocks or climbing fences), which was a little odd considering that the rest of the seasons don’t carry that on.

Season 1 would probably be higher on the list if it had more than six episodes, but it is still a great watch, if only because it set the foundation of this incredible universe.
