The Walking Dead’s Sydney Park stars in Netflix film, Moxie

The film Moxie has taken Netflix by storm, and Walking Dead fans will be happy to know our own Sydney Park stars in this film.

Park currently plays Cyndie on The Walking Dead series as the current leader of Oceanside. Her grandmother Natania was the former leader of Oceanside, who was killed in season eight. She is also a co-leader of the Coalition that joined the communities to form the militia that was trained to fight the Whisperers.

Now, Park is starring in the Netflix movie, Moxie, which follows a shy high school girl who gains confidence through her mother’s past rebellious behavior and confidence from a new acquaintance. It is directed by Amy Poehler, who also plays the mother in the film.

The movie is based on a book by Jennifer Mathieu (The Truth About Alice) and is the story of Vivan Carter (Hadley Robinson), who is fed up with her high school administration and the unspoken rule that the football team members can do no wrong. She gets inspired by her mother’s (Poehler) riot grrrl exploits as a high schooler.

In a world where we encourage women to be empowered, this film touches on just that subject. Vivian and her friends are tired of the double standard at their high school of the treatment of boys and girls.

Park plays one of Vivan’s friends, Kiera, who joins the movement when she is voted best ass in the school. In the trailer (below), you can see Kiera’s comment on this very thing.

This film also does a great job of representation with the cast playing characters that fit their identities.

Park is known for her work on TWD and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists and Santa Clarita Diet. She is set to star in another Netflix film, There’s Someone Inside Your House, scheduled to be released in 2021. This movie is a slasher film that follows Park’s character Makani Young, who moves to a Nebraska town with her grandmother to finish high school, only to find herself in the middle of a string of murders whose victims are her own classmates.
