This week’s episode of The Walking Dead focused almost entirely on Daryl’s time in the woods as he searched the river for Rick. This included his relationship with a woman named Leah, whom he met out there, but also Daryl’s struggles to come to terms with his guilt for Rick’s disappearance and how Leah helped him achieve that.

It was interesting seeing Daryl go from the angry, vengeance-hungry man he was before Rick was lost to a guilt-ridden man after that, to a quietly optimistic man. Funny enough, seeing Daryl now reminds me of something he said way back in season two when much of the rest of the group were losing their cool: “Am I the only one who’s zen around here?”

He just might be.

A zombie apocalypse like the one inThe Walking Dead could tear you apart from the inside, but only if you let it. To survive, you have to hold yourself together.

This evolution of Daryl’s didn’t happen out of the blue and as we saw in this week’s episode, came about, at least partially, due to his time with Leah.

Leah, despite losing so much during the outbreak, including her friends in the military, and her adopted son, remained resilient in the face of the horrors of the post-apocalyptic world. This wasn’t because she ignored what happened, but she resolved not to let them consume her.

With that in mind, for this week’s The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week, I decided to focus on that aspect of Leah and how emulating it can help you survive the zombie apocalypse and the wear it causes on your mind.

Hopefully, by the time we’re done here, you’ve realized how to make yourself mentally stronger and the hurdles that come with trying to remain so.
