Greg Nicotero, The Walking Dead’s executive producer and FX guru, has kept himself quite busy during the pandemic. Not only has he worked on episodes of The Walking Dead, but he also filmed two seasons of his Creepshow series. Season two of Creepshow will air on April 1 on Shudder.

Entertainment Weekly reports that in March of 2020, Nicotero was filming the second season of Creepshow when it was shutdown. This was after only one day of filming. At that time, everyone thought they would be shut down for a few weeks and then back to work. This was not the case.

In the summer of 2020, they got back to filming, but this time with many safety precautions in place. Then in February 2021, the series was renewed for a third season. This was perfect as there were already plenty of scripts written, and they filmed these two seasons back to back.

Creepshow is an anthology web series that continues the franchise.

The original Creepshow was directed by George A. Romero and written by Stephen King. This film was produced in 1982, and in 1987 Romero wrote the screenplay for its sequel. This time Michael Gornick, a cinematographer of the first film, now stepped up to direct.

Nicotero started his career in 1985 when he did special effects for Romero’s Day of the Dead. Season one of the Creepshow series is a homage to Romero and his work. The upcoming season two episode titled “Public Television of the Dead” will pay tribute to Sam Raimi, creator of the Evil Dead franchise. Nicotero worked on Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness and felt he need to honor Raimi’s universe of possessed people.

There has been a handful of Walking Dead cast members on the series. Josh McDermitt, Cailey Fleming starred in the first season, and McDermitt will return for the second and C. Thomas Howell. Andrew Lincoln was supposed to be a part of the second season but could not travel from the UK to Atlanta for filming.
