By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead alum Sonequa Martin-Green has a new project. She will star in Space Jam: A New Legacy, set to release July 16, 2021, in theaters and on HBO Max.
The first trailer for the film has been released, and we see a clip of Martin-Green, who plays LeBron James’ wife, Kamiyah. They are joined by Cedric Joe, who plays their youngest son Dom, Ceyair J. Wright, the eldest son Darius and Haper Leight Alexander as their daughter Xosha. Don Cheadle also stars in the film as an evil computer algorithm, AL-G Rhythm.
The film centers around Dom and his desire to be a video game developer instead of following his father’s footsteps of playing basketball. They become trapped in virtual space, which will require James to play a basketball game with Looney Tunes teammates and the animated Goon Squad characters. This synopsis follows the same vein as the original when Michael Jordan had to play against animated aliens with the Looney Tunes teammates.
Sonequa Martin-Green has gone on to do amazing things since leaving The Walking Dead.
Before taking on the role of Sasha on The Walking, Dead Martin-Green was no stranger to TV. She previously had parts in Once Upon a Time, New Girl, Army Wives and The Good Wife, to name a few.
She has found her new home in the Star Trek family. She landed the lead role of Michael Burnham in the Star Trek: Discovery series in 2016. This has been a brilliant career move for Martin-Green. She has received much praise for her talents in this role over the four seasons of the series.
Another fun project that she is involved in is Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s animated series Invincible. She voices the part of Green Ghost in this series, where she works alongside other Walking Dead cast members, including Steven Yeun, Khary Payton, Ross Marquand, Lauren Cohan, Chad Coleman, Lennie James and Michael Cudlitz.
