The Walking Dead: Fans want to see a Negan spin-off series
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead has aired its final bonus episode that completed the tenth season of the series. The episode was titled “Here’s Negan,” and the storyline was the backstory of who Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is and what triggered him into being the villain we know. Fans of the character were extremely pleased with the episode and now want to see more of the story with perhaps a spinoff for Negan.
Going into this episode, fans had an idea of what the story would entail. The announcement that Hilarie Burton Morgan, JDM’s wife, would portray his on-screen wife created a fandom buzz. Fans were excited to see Negan’s wife would be included in his origin story. We also knew there would be other elements of the story building to the Negan who was the ruthless leader of the Saviors.
The on-screen chemistry between the couple was a bright spot in the episode. Fans of the couple see their social media posts about how in love they are, and this was reflected on screen. Another actor could have done a good job portraying Lucille, but it seems this husband and wife duo was the best choice.
What would a Negan spin-off consist of?
This episode gave us some more of the story that filled in what little we knew regarding Lucille, her fight with cancer, and her death. But, we didn’t get any information as to how the Saviors were started. The one thing we did see, which was an amazing detail, was that Laura (Lindsley Register) is the one who gave Negan his bat. Not only that, she used it to take Negan down when she thought he was a threat.
Fans would love to see more of the hows and whys of the creation of the Saviors. Morgan has teased in interviews that a Negan spin-off could be a thing. If Carol and Daryl can get their own spin-off, why not Negan.
Another route they could take is featuring Negan and the Saviors in Tales of the Walking Dead episodes. Little is known about this series besides the fact the stories could include any of The Walking Dead Universe characters, and the story could follow a past, present or future timeline.
With the flagship series ending with its eleventh season, there are many other veins the showrunners could go with stories and continuation of TWDU.
Until then, be sure to catch the season eleven premiere of The Walking Dead on August 22, on AMC.
