5) The Valaks Vipers

In season ten’s final episode, we delved deep into Negan’s past, seeing what his life was like at the beginning of the apocalypse, and learning the first steps in his march to become the violent extortionist we would eventually meet. A good part of that story involves a nasty gang of bikers named the Valaks Vipers.

Led by a man named Craven, they were…exactly what you’d expect from a criminal biker gang. They were violent (Kidnapping and beating first Negan, then Dr. Franklin), they were greedy (wanting whatever drugs Dr. Franklin might have had), and they were ruthless. If Laura’s screaming after they’d brought her and her dad’s RV back to their headquarters was any indication, they’re the kind of guys Dave and Tony and “Deserved-It” Dan would have been good friends with and leave it at that.

You know, I was going to go on a bit of a diatribe about these guys, but the more I think about it, I can save myself some time and just say it: There is nothing, not a single, solitary thing, even remotely redeemable about the Vipers.

Throughout our time seeing them in their only episode, “Here’s Negan,” they beat up Negan (Who’s only trying to get chemotherapy treatments for Lucille) for not ratting out the doctor who’d been kind enough to feed him, give him a baseball bat to defend himself with, and the chemo treatments he needed. Negan knew what they’d do to him (And, sure enough, he was right), but for the horrible affront of not ratting out this good man and his group to them, they beat him up for it.

They then did the same thing to Dr. Franklin so that, presumably, they could hold a monopoly on medical supplies, while they did who-knows-what to Laura.

On top of all of this, they guaranteed that Negan would not be able to get home in time to try to help Lucille and basically laughed in his face about it.

Like I said: Not a single thing redeemable about them.

This makes my job easier! I don’t need to sit here and rack my brain trying to measure the biggest scumbags in this half-season because I already have them! A gang of people who are nothing but vile, greedy, violent thugs, who were almost certainly exactly the same irredeemable cockroaches before the outbreak hit. It doesn’t get much more straightforward than that.
