Fans of The Walking Dead didn’t approve of our group’s treatment from the Whisperers, but all can agree that Alpha couldn’t have been better cast. Samantha Morton did an amazing job in her portrayal of the Whisperer’s skin mask-wearing leader. Her death was expected, but the talent of Morton was a sad loss to the series. Now, fans will be able to see her in a new project.

Deadline has reported that Morton will star in Starz’s new series, The Serpent Queen. She has been cast as Catherine de Medici. The series is based on the novel written by Leonie Frieda titled “Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France.”

Catherine de Medici was a common woman who married into the 16th-century French court. Much was expected of her regarding a large dowry and furthering the line by bearing many children. Her dowry was never paid, she could never have children, and her husband was in love with someone else. Even considering her “common” roots, she was an intelligent and determined woman who would stop at nothing to ensure that her time in the monarchy was impressive. And she ruled France for 50 years.

Samantha Morton has had many diverse roles over the span of her career.

Morton’s role as Alpha on The Walking Dead was an iconic one for the fandom. Alpha is a character featured in the comic book, and this storyline could only be led by an actor with the talent to transform themselves into something as vile as the Whisperers’ leader. Morton did a bang-up job and will go down as one of the worse villains in the series.

The other roles she is most known for include Sweet and Lowdown, Minority Report, In America, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them, and the Hulu series Harlots.

Morton has been nominated for an Academy Award and two BAFTA awards. In 2007 she received Best Actress Golden Globe for her portrayal of notorious child-murderer Myra Hindley in the NBC/Channel 4 movie Longford.

This role will be a good fit for Morton as she processes the talent to play the strong and determined woman that this role will require.
