Fear The Walking Dead, SROTW: Bad Things Happen To Bad People
By Liam O'Leary
1) If People Can’t Trust You…Why Would They Keep You Around?
As this season of Fear The Walking Dead continues, I’m willing to bet that Morgan’s group will have some major trust issues as far as Dakota is concerned. When you consider the fact that she murdered two people, one of them being John Dorie, and was, apparently, happy to let a third innocent person be executed for her first murder (And didn’t bother to tell anyone until she accidentally got herself caught), will it be any surprise when Morgan, Alicia, Strand, etc. all start to question how safe they all are in her presence? Somehow…I doubt it.
Trust is probably one of the most important things you can have in a zombie apocalypse because it’s what makes the difference between having to survive alone (Which is extremely tough) and being part of a group. It’s also extremely fragile.
Unlike now, where, if you break someone’s trust, they either have to eventually forgive you, or they’ll just cut you out of their life. In a zombie apocalypse, where everything is “life-and-death” and laws don’t really apply anymore, the consequences can become a lot more extreme if you break someone’s trust.
Realistically, if you lie to someone (Or worse, betray them) in the apocalypse, they will legitimately have to question whether or not they can trust you with their life or the lives of people they care about. What do you think happens if they decide that…they can’t?
Short answer: You wind up dead.
The same goes for someone who’s built up a reputation for wanton cruelty or brutality. It might be one thing if you’ve built up a reputation against people who attack your group, but, if you’re known for just general cruelty or violence, other people are not going to want you around, and, if they get the chance, they’ll get rid of you the easy way: Permanently.
Before you decide to burn bridges with people, remember this question: Why would someone keep you around…if they can’t trust you?
