Fear The Walking Dead: What does the future hold for Sherry and Dwight?
By Renee Hansen
Fear The Walking Dead has delivered some major shocks to the fandom. Events that have occurred at the beginning of the back half of season six have once again given new life to the series.
Just when John Dorie (Garett Dillahunt) changes his mind about ending his life, Dakota (Zoe Colletti) steps in and ends it for him. Then after June (Jenna Elfman) saves Virginia’s (Colby Minifie) life, more than once, she blows her away with a shot to the head. Oh, and Virginia is Dakota’s MOTHER.
All of these things have been shocking, and that is what makes a great series. No pomp and build-up of which characters are leaving the series and what episode is their final. Just BAM, out of the blue, this person is killed, and we didn’t expect it.
The other thing that I find extremely interesting is the dynamic, or lack thereof, between Sherry (Christine Evangelista) and Dwight (Austin Amelio). I have always put them in my little ‘romantic couple’ box and wanted to keep them there. But, in the most recent episode, it doesn’t look like this is true.
What does the future hold for Sherry and Dwight in Fear the Walking Dead?
We meet Sherry and Dwight in The Walking Dead during season 6. They are both part of Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) Savior group, Dwight as a soldier and Sherry as one of Negan’s wives. One of Negan’s punishments to Dwight was the burning of his face with a clothing iron.
During everything they endured at the Sanctuary, their love remained strong. When Sherry escaped, she left messages at their former home so that Dwight would find them. She knew he would come searching for her. This gave Dwight hope, and when the Sanctuary fell, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) tells Dwight to leave and never return. Daryl did this as a favor to Sherry, who helped him escape Negan’s clutches when he was a prisoner in the Sanctuary.
When we meet Dwight in Fear The Walking Dead, he has been searching for Sherry for quite some time. We get to see him searching, following the notes she leaves for him, and many in the new group are willing to help him.
When they finally reunite, it is a sweet moment that viewers have been hoping to see. But, while Dwight tried his best to be who she wanted him to be, Sherry eventually tells him she can’t change who she is, and she wants to remain with the masked group.
This is such a sad moment. Dwight has been ever-faithful in his search for the love of his life. While she left him breadcrumbs to find her, she was with this other group who now want Virginia to pay for what she has done to them. We don’t know exactly what Virginia did to this group, but it wasn’t good from what we knew of her.
What will happen next for Dwight and Sherry? How will she react when she finds out that Virginia is dead? Will she come to Morgan’s community to live with Dwight? Or will she go on with her current group as their mission to kill Virginia has ended since June took care of that for them?
Hopefully, we will find out something about the fate of their relationship in the remainder of season six.
