3) The Less Trustworthy Someone Is, The More They Want You To Trust Them.

Perversely, this makes perfect sense: A person who isn’t worthy of trust does not want others to know this, so they will go out of their way to get you to trust them, so that, whatever nefarious things they want to do, you’ll suspect them of doing it the least.

What this translates to are lies. Lots and lots of lies. It’s the very reason why people are suspicious: Because they know that people have the capacity to lie to them.

And lie they shall. I’ve spent the past couple of weeks talking about how evil people will use the lawless nature of the apocalypse to do whatever vile things they’ve always wanted to do to others. And, that same lawlessness can be turned around on them. Because they want to do the former (And because they desperately want to avoid the latter), such people will often lie about their intent. Furthermore, the viler they are, the more they will try to get you to trust them, and the more lies they will tell.

Sometimes, to get you to trust them, they will devote their efforts to scapegoating, vilifying, demonizing, and casting aspersions on others, the aim being to “expose” or rally everyone against an “enemy” — Especially if the person they’re pointing fingers at is not an enemy at all — to deflect attention away from the fact they haven’t actually done anything to earn your trust.
