3) Wes

Poor Wes can’t catch a break. The dude catches shrapnel in his belly, has Virginia try to torture him and refuse him anesthesia because he used spray paint as his utensil of choice for his art? Then, when everyone’s gathered around, trying to figure out how to deal with The Beginners, Sherry turns around and starts using the fact that Virginia of all people (a person Sherry hated, by the way) accused Wes to accuse him yet again!

Like I said: Poor dude can’t catch a break.

Realistically, Virginia’s evidence was flimsy, at best. Spray paint? That was her smoking gun? Did Wes even have yellow among his colors? I remember red and (I think) silver. Now, sure, he could, have thrown it away if he was The Beginner at Tank Town, but the fact remains that spray paint is paper-thin as far as evidence goes. I mean, it’s not like what Wes does with the spray paint is a mystery: We’ve seen him spray painting designs and images on things; that’s what he does!

Even if I were to be fair to Virginia and say that, with John outside and having no real means of investigating, the spray paint was the best evidence she’d get. What we know about Wes still doesn’t amount to terrorism. In fact, we do not indicate that he’d have anything to do with The Beginners at all!

When we first met him, Wes was wandering around alone, searching for a man who stole his brother’s manuscript. When he formally joined the caravan, after first rejecting joining the caravan, rescuing Janis (A total stranger) from a herd of walkers. Because the caravan was about to be pushed out of their home first by Logan, then by Virginia, and left to wander the desert for a new home, if the intent was to infiltrate them to bring them down or utilize them in some fashion, it seems pretty convoluted. If the caravan were going to be pushed to the outskirts of civilization by Virginia, comprised only around fifty people at most, and lost their ability to reach others, they would be useless to The Beginners as potential recruits, and in such dire straits by the end of season five that, if they wanted them destroyed, they’d only have had to wait them out. The fact they were alive at all is practically a miracle and not something a spy could have (Or would have) realistically planned for.

What I’m saying is: If Wes were The Beginners’ spy, he’s the luckiest damned spy ever.

Likelihood Of Being The Spy: Low
