Angela Kang promises an outstanding return of The Walking Dead in S11
By Renee Hansen
Some fans of The Walking Dead weren’t impressed with the slow go experienced in season 10c. The slower pace was partly due to precautions that needed to be taken to film during a pandemic and party because this extended season wasn’t in the original plan for season 10.
Showrunner Angela Kang has been very vocal about the upcoming final season of the series. When she talked to Entertainment Weekly, she stated that fans could expect a return to the action, scope and scale of previous seasons. With season 11 being the final, fans are hoping for something amazing to end the series.
In this season, items that will be addressed include the new group that Eugene, Ezekiel, Princess and Yumiko have encountered, which will open up the Walking Dead world. Alexandria is dealing with the mess created by the Whisperer’s war and they are trying to rebuild and take care of everyone living there.
The Walking Dead season 11 will end the series, but what else will happen before the end?
Kang has also shared that Daryl’s world will be different than before. We meet Leah in season 10c, and although it hasn’t been confirmed, there have been hints that we will see Leah again. It has been speculated that the military group she was a part of could be tied to the Reapers that have terrorized Maggie and her group.
There is also the Daryl and Carol spin-off that will happen after season 11 is finished. This final season of The Walking Dead will also lead us into that series, but since there is no synopsis for that spin-off, it may or may not piggyback from the final season.
"“We’ve got some really intriguing stuff for Daryl,” says Kang. “We’ll be putting him in a very different context than he’s been in before.”"
There is the whole Negan/Maggie dynamic that will have to come to a head. We are waiting to see this tension dealt with. We last saw Negan return to Alexandria, and he flashed a sly smile Maggie’s way. It was almost as if he was saying, “Come and get me.”
Fans are holding out hope that we will once again see Rick Grimes. There has been no word from showrunners that this will happen. If it does, I truly hope it is kept secret until the episode would air. It would be a great way to end the series; it started with Rick and rightly should end with him.
The Walking Dead will return to AMC on August 22, 2021. With filming currently underway, a trailer can’t be far in coming. Keeping watching Undead Walking, and we will be sure to share all the news on season 11.
