Jon Bernthal new film, Those Who Wish Me Dead, trailer and release date
By Renee Hansen
Walking Dead alum, Jon Bernthal played the hot-headed Shane Walsh, who was killed off in season two. He was a character everyone loved to hate, and after he left the series, he has been a busy man. On May 14, 2021, his latest project, Those Who Wish Me Dead, will premiere in theaters and on HBO Max.
The film is written and directed by Taylor Sheridan and adapted from a novel written by Michael Koryta. Set in a wilderness in Montana, the story follows Hannah (Angelina Jolie), a smokejumper in an emotionally fragile state after she cannot save people from a fire. She is stationed in a remote lookout tower where she comes in contact with a young boy Connor (Finn Little), who is on the run from assassins who killed his father. Bernthal plays local sheriff Ethan Sawyer.
Those Who Wish Me Dead also stars Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies and The Great), Aiden Gillen (Game of Thrones and Peaky Blinders), Medina Senghore (Happy!), Tyler Perry (Vice and Gone Girl) and Jake Weber (Midway and Homeland).
From the official trailer, you can see this will be a thrilling ride.
What other projects has Jon Bernthal been involved in?
Bernthal has been acting since the early 2000s and has an extensive catalog of projects to his name. His most recent projects include The Punisher, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Ford vs Ferrari and Viena and the Fantomes.
He has many other projects in the works, including The Many Saints of Newark, a look into the younger years of The Sopranos character Tony Soprano. An interesting bit of trivia for this film is that the young Tony Soprano will be played by Michael Gandolfini, the son of the original actor James Gandolfini. This film is expected in the fall of 2021.
King Richard is another film we will see Bernthal in. This film tells the story of tennis superstars Venus and Serena William’s coach, their father, Richard Williams. Will Smith will play the main character and Bernthal will play tennis coach and former player Rick Macci.
The modern-day version of the American Gigolo film from the 80s will have Bernthal as a producer, but he will also portray Julian Kaye. This will be a TV series that will continue Julian’s story made popular by Richard Gere.
Be sure to catch Bernthal in Those Who Wish Me Dead on May 14.
