As we start getting closer to Fear The Walking Dead’s season six finale, it’s natural to wonder what surprises might be waiting for us.

We know that Teddy Maddox has had Alicia captive for a little while now, and the rest of the group clearly believes her dead (Otherwise, they’d be making it more of a priority to rescue her). With all this time to focus on her, he may be managed to brainwash her into being one of his followers, something we’re almost certainly going to see concluded before the season ends.

As Morgan’s group prepares to confront the cult…can they trust Dakota? That’s what I hope to answer in my latest Fear The Walking Dead Theory!

This week’s episode introduced John Dorie, Sr., who’s been trying to rid the world of Teddy and The Beginners since the 1970s, and opens up a whole new avenue to be explored of John’s history with the group, and allow for Morgan to exploit a potential weakness in them told to him by John, which could be fun.

But there’s one person who I feel like has been put in the background over these last few episodes, who might just become huge to the season’s conclusion: Dakota.

While Dakota has been trying desperately (In the few times we’ve seen her over the last three or four episodes, that is) to help Morgan’s group and their allies in the coming conflict with The Beginners, she has been brushed aside, her murder of John Dorie still too fresh in everyone’s mind to ignore, and therefore, making trusting her very difficult.

Of course, I can’t imagine that a character like her, with all this baggage from so many other important characters, would fade into the background as this season approaches its finale. They have to be cooking up something for her, right?

This is where my…theory comes into play.

I’m going to be honest, as I’m writing this, I didn’t originally intend for this to be a Fear The Walking Dead Theory. This was and still is more of a question than anything else, but it’s a question that does have some evidence to back up at least one possible answer, so, in light of that, I think this is the best format I could have for this.

Okay, firstly, I’m going to say that I’m, at present, leaning towards saying that Dakota will betray Morgan and company. Even though Alicia has probably been brainwashed by now, I can’t imagine it sticking, or at least sticking as well as Teddy would like. I think Alicia is too strong-willed to let such programming completely take her over, even if it will appear that way for the next couple of episodes. Instead of that, I think a potential swerve for the finale may come from Dakota (Who has conveniently been in the background for a little while, diverting suspicion) doing the turn rather than Alicia. I’m not saying it’s set in stone by any means, but I think the writers may be veering that way.

Secondly, with June being taken back in by Morgan at the end of this week’s episode, it throws a new wrinkle into the relationship between Dakota and Morgan’s group.

With June having broken Morgan’s rule by killing Dakota’s mother, but after only a short while, being accepted back into the group, you can see where this could be the jumping-off point for tensions or divided loyalties that weren’t there one episode earlier.

Yeah, Dakota may have hated Virginia, but that was before learning the true nature of their relationship. As we saw when June gunned Virginia down, Dakota (Who, up to that point, had been demanding Virginia be killed) suddenly seemed horrified, rushing in to see her mother while June stalked away from the community. It’s entirely possible that the revelation that Virginia was her mother and not her sister made Dakota willing to give Virginia a second chance and try to understand why she killed Dakota’s beloved grandparents. You can see where June being welcomed back to the group with open arms might cause Dakota to suddenly decide The Beginners aren’t so bad.

Will Dakota betray the group? I want to say “Yes,” but, as I said, this was always intended to be more of a question than a theory as I usually do them. Alicia’s time with The Beginners leaves things up in the air, and I’m not so certain I want to say that Dakota definitely will without more evidence to back that up.

But, what do you guys think? Do you think that Dakota will betray everyone for The Beginners? Do you think she may try to kill June or John Sr. (We know she doesn’t have any qualms about killing people, something The Beginners like)? While she may not join them, she may not be willing to tolerate June being back with the group, either. Let me know! I’m curious!
