1) This episode’s “Previously” recaps the conclusion of the previous episode, “In Dreams” (Specifically, Athena’s death), Dwight and Sherry’s exchange at the end of “Handle With Care,” June having to bury John and her having to leave Valley Town after killing Virginia in “Things Left To Do.”

2) This episode’s title sequence features a silhouette of June wielding a rifle while standing in a clearing, with a fence on her left, a grave on her right, and an RV behind her.

3) One of the Polaroids John Sr. has featured The Beginners’ slogan, “The End Is The Beginning.” Is this a recent picture? Or, is it from before the outbreak? Considering that John revealed that Teddy has been preaching his weird philosophy since the 1970s, it’s entirely possible that he’s had devotees on the outside that whole time.

4) While talking with June in the RV, John Sr. mentions how he’d been in the area of Tank Town “Since the fire at the garage.” This references the blaze Alicia started at the Holding in the episode of the same name.

5) This episode gets its name from (Among other things) the initials written on John’s six-shooters, which, upon seeing them, prompts John Sr. to remark: “The ‘J.D.’ on the handle? That’s me. I’m John Dorie.
