The most recent episode of Fear the Walking Dead titled “Mother” was an exciting one for fans of Alicia. The episode focused on the unlikely trio of Alicia, Teddy, and Dakota and their altercation with someone from Alicia’s past.

The episode’s title caused much excitement as it raised fans’ hopes that we would see a different mother. Sadly, it wasn’t Madison who appeared, but a corpse of who we thought was Teddy’s mother that ended up just being a diversion. It was an outrageous stunt in true Teddy form, and I feel there is always a method to his madness. In this episode, he is closely observing Alicia, but more on that in a moment.

When the trio comes upon Cole, who resided at the stadium in earlier episodes, Alicia is shocked to see someone from her past. And not just any random time but that last time she saw her mother alive. He ultimately lies to Alicia and leads her into a trap. But, the main part here is that she shot him because he was given a second chance at life by her mother, who sacrificed herself for many, and he squandered that chance by turning into a horrible person. This isn’t what Madison would have wanted for Cole or any of the others she saved.

Alicia is the beginning to the end that Teddy has been preaching about

Teddy has been spouting the same “The End is the Beginning” rhetoric since the 1970s. Even back then, he had brainwashed many people into his ideology. Unfortunately for him, his side gig as a serial killer caught up to him, and he ended up being imprisoned for life, ending his cult. Enter in the apocalypse and people searching for some kind of community. Perfect for the escaped prisoner to reestablish his cult following with the end game of destroying what is left of the world.

Then something happened that he didn’t expect, Alicia. She is brave and not afraid to confront what she feels is wrong. When she set the fire at the Holding, she ruined what Teddy and his followers had prepared. She impressed Teddy, and he told her that he had been looking for someone like her.

He watched her closely during the altercation with Cole. He saw that she did everything to allow Cole and his group to redeem themselves. It was then that he trusted her with his plan regarding the submarine and the nuclear missile.

The statement that “he had been looking for someone like her” didn’t make much sense until the ending of “Mother,” when he trapped her in a bunker. Teddy needs people of Alicia’s strength and character to be the beginning after the nuke creates the end.

We have two more episodes remaining in season six. Will Morgan and his crew be able to stop Teddy and his plan for the end?
