John Glover plays the current villain on Fear the Walking Dead. Theodore “Teddy” Maddox is the leader of the Beginners group who has been spray painting their motto “The End is the Beginning” for everyone to see.

We first meet Teddy when Alicia and the gang infiltrated his underground bunker known as the Holding. This group has been teased for quite some time, so it was good to finally find out what they are about. Teddy, who had been a cult leader in the 70s before he was put in prison for being a serial killer, decided that the end of the world was a great time to create another cult.

This Fear the Walking Dead villain is unsettling as he seems to have everyone’s best interest in mind, but in reality, he is about to destroy all that remains of the world, including many of his followers.

How was John Glover cast for the role of Teddy Maddox on Fear the Walking Dead?

In an AMC interview with John Glover, the actor shared that he received an offer to play this role. He rarely does auditions with his many years in the business; the parts just come to him. Lucky guy! When he read the description of Teddy, he thought it would be really “juicy” and jumped at the chance to play him.

Glover has been in the acting world since the 70s, and his catalog of projects is extensive. He recently starred in an episode of the series Evil and has also starred in other series, including The Good Wife, The Blacklist, TRON: Uprising, Smallville, Numb3rs and Brimstone.

He is often cast as a villain, and his first role was on the soap opera Search for Tomorrow, where he played a mentally disturbed man who kidnapped the lead character, Joanne.

You can see him on the big and small screens, but he is no stranger to the stage as well. He has won a Tony Award for his work playing duel roles on Love! Valour! Compassion!  Roles which he reprised in the film of the same title.

Whoever had the idea to cast him as Teddy hit the mark, he is pulling off this character with ease. His interactions with Alicia and Dakota in the most recent episode “Mother” gave us a look into the methods Teddy uses to draw people into his web. He studies them, tests them, and then when he feels he has their trust, he shares his plan with them, and evidently, that is enough for most people to follow him blindly.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the final two episodes of season six of Fear the Walking Dead. Will Teddy destroy humanity with his nuke? Or will Morgan and the gang ride in and save the day?
