2) People Change…And Not Always For The Better.

One of the biggest twists in this week’s episode of Fear was the return of Cole, Doug, and Viv, all of whom were thought dead at the hands of the Vultures’ horde of walkers when The Diamond fell back in season four. It was great for Alicia to see some familiar faces that she had long feared dead.

Then, it all came crashing down when, after appearing to be the same Cole we knew from before, he revealed that, not only had he apparently joined a group of bandits, but was, in fact, leading that group of bandits, and had seemingly dragged Doug and Viv down with him. Alicia was heartbroken to see that the sacrifice her mother made had been in vain, as Cole simply took the chance he was given and turned into the very people Madison had given her life trying to protect him from (Though, listening to Cole, it sounded like this had always been something in him, just looking for the chance to come out, but, I digress…).

A zombie apocalypse will change people, sometimes in little ways, sometimes in big ways. For example: Do you know someone who abhors violence? Yeah, well, they’ll probably get rid of that pretty damn quick after their first few encounters with zombies or people trying to kill them.

The sad thing is…not all the changes people will go through in the apocalypse will be good. Some people, forced to live on the edge long enough, seeing the world as they know it descends into madness, forced to fight to get through another day, having to watch friends and loved ones be attacked by or even become zombies, and having their lives constantly threatened by the many despicable opportunists the apocalypse will produce, will simply no longer be that person they once were, and be replaced with a harder, ruthless, violent, maybe even bloodthirsty person, with the only thing of their old self remaining being their face; Like an evil doppelganger.

When meeting up with old friends in the apocalypse you haven’t seen for months, maybe even years, be very careful: You haven’t been around them in a long time, you have no idea what they’ve gone through since you separated (Maybe even since the outbreak hit), and you have no idea what that may have done to them. They might look like your friend, but they may have become a completely different person, and maybe one who doesn’t care who you were to that old version of themselves.
