Fear The Walking Dead Theory: Dakota Is A SERIAL KILLER
By Liam O'Leary
After reading the title of this article, I can imagine what Fear the Walking Dead fans are thinking: “Dakota may be a backstabbing murderer, but, a SERIAL KILLER? That’s a little out there, don’t you think?”
Or, maybe: “Well, duh. She murdered Cameron and John for no good reason; of course, she’s gonna become a serial killer someday!”
We all know that Dakota is a murdering backstabber, but is she EVEN WORSE than we thought? In this week’s Fear The Walking Dead Theory, I seek to prove it.
And, after having thought about it…you’re probably right. Dakota has obviously murdered people, but to go so far as to call her a serial killer is a little far-fetched. She’s only killed two people, and neither one of them were planned, so, yeah, the label is a bit over-the-top.
I mean, it’s not like she’s killed other people befo–

Now, you might be wondering: “What proof do you have that Dakota has killed people besides Cameron and John?”
Would her own admission do the trick?
In this week’s Fear The Walking Dead, when Dakota, Teddy, Cole, and Alicia were making their way to the auto repair shop, Dakota took the opportunity to ask Teddy about his time in prison and why he was there in the first place. Teddy explained that he was imprisoned for murdering people who “Got in his way,” to which Dakota asked him if he felt bad about it, then their conversation went more or less as follows:
Teddy: “Do I detect some guilt over your own acts of malice, Sioux?”
Dakota (Emphasis added): “I only killed people I had to.”
Teddy: “So, you knew them, then?”
Dakota (Emphasis added): “One of them more than the others.“
Teddy: “Did you feel bad about what you did to him?”
Dakota: “No. Didn’t really give me much of a choice. But, when I tell people that, they look at me like they’re scared.”
Okay. Let’s stop and ask a couple of questions here: People?
I know: Technically, because she killed Cameron and John, you could argue that that was what she meant. Fine. But…”The others”? Others implies that she was talking about killing someone besides John (After killing Cameron, who she seemed to be referring to), meaning that she’s subtly admitting to killing more than two people.
First, who are these “others”? Were they people within some of the Pioneers’ communities? I imagine it would have to be unless her nightly excursions (Which Cameron caught her returning from) were her finding some poor randos and just straight-up murdering them. Now that I think about it, that honestly wouldn’t surprise me…
Second…when, exactly, did she start doing this? Was this a new thing? Had it only started happening since Virginia first caught wind of Morgan’s caravan, and that was why she started insisting on Dakota not being allowed to leave? Has this been happening even earlier? Had this been happening before the outbreak? Was this the “not protecting” Virginia talked about when she explained why she killed Dakota’s grandparents? Were they letting her become this? There are too many questions that this implication opens up and so few answers.
Whatever the case may be, between the ease with which Dakota kills people, her failure to understand the problem with that, how quickly she found a kindred spirit in Teddy, and the apparent volume of kills she subtly admitted to perpetrating, I think it’s safe to say that Dakota is a serial killer. Even if she isn’t necessarily malicious by nature, it doesn’t change the fact she seems to be giving off many of the hallmarks of a depraved killer, one who, as the apocalypse goes on, will only see killing as more worthwhile and simply go from bad…to worse.
But, what do you guys think? Do you think that Dakota has killed more people than we realize? Who do you think they might be? Do you think that she may, in fact, be a serial killer? If so, how long do you think she’s been like this? Let me know! I’m curious!
