Fear The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week: Know What You’re Getting Into
By Liam O'Leary
3) Know What You’re Getting Into With Hostiles.
As I mentioned earlier, there will be people who will try to use the apocalypse as an opportunity or excuse to steal, rape, pillage, plunder, extort, and murder other people, and, obviously, you don’t want that happening to you, so, eventually, there will come a time where you will need to defend yourself and your group from such characters.
Realize that doing that will probably be the biggest leap for you to make from your pre-apocalypse life to your post-apocalypse one because it will require you to lie to, spy on, and attack other people, perhaps even fatally. Sadly, in a lot of cases, this will be unavoidable. If you’re faced with people who seek to subjugate, violate, or eradicate you and your group, sometimes even by siccing a herd of zombies on you, there is no negotiating or reasoning with them, you have no choice but to fight them.
The real question becomes: How?
Well, to find out, you got to learn as much about them as you can. How many of them are there? Are they armed? What do they want — Are they more like The Saviors…or The Beginners? Do they want you to do their bidding…or do they want to wipe you off the face of the Earth? This is important because whichever side of this spectrum they fall on will help determine just how hardcore they will be. Thugs, extortionists, rapists, even killers, when faced with serious resistance, might give up searching for easier prey or greener pastures, but fanatics, like The Beginners? Nuh-uh. People like that believe in what they’re doing and will probably be willing to die to see it through. Those are the people you really need to watch out for.
Lastly, you need to know where they are and where you may have to fight them. Fighting your enemies on a battlefield they’ve chosen puts you at a severe disadvantage, so the more you know about the environment you’re fighting them in means you’re not going into battle blind. It can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
It’s important to know as much about your enemies as you possibly can because when you inevitably have to fight them, you’ll have a better idea of what to expect.
