4) Know Who You’re Getting Into Things With, Too.

Obviously, it’s important to know what you’re getting into in a zombie apocalypse, but the most important thing? Knowing the people, you’re getting into things with.

Why? Well, look what happened to Morgan on this week’s Fear The Walking Dead: Strand convinces him to let him come with him to deal with Teddy and Riley, then, after figuring out where their enemies are (And while confronted with a dozen or so members of the Pennsylvania’s crew), Strand turns around, throws Morgan to the walkers, steals his axe head, and tries to confront Teddy and Riley alone. Something like that is why you need to know who you’re getting into things with.

When you form up a group with other survivors, it pays to get to know them as best as possible, even (If not especially) when you don’t like them. You need to know what their outlook on the world and their place in it is. If, for example, they’re a defeatist, it’s best not to bring them on a vital mission, as they’ll probably bail when the chips are down.

Similarly, if they’re selfish, like Strand, even if they sort of mean well, their methods of going about doing good may…suck, quite frankly. Strand wanted to prove to Alicia that he was thinking about other people by trying to stop the nuclear attack, except his way of going about it was stupid and selfish, trying to sacrifice Morgan to get rid of the walkers in their way. Had Alicia been there, she would have probably suspected such a play and stopped him from doing it. Morgan, not being as familiar with Strand, didn’t see it coming.

This is why it pays to know the people you form a group with, especially before you go on an important mission. That way, you can know what they might do when things look their bleakest, whether that sacrifices themselves to save the group or sacrifice you to save themselves.

Knowing your friends in a zombie apocalypse is even more important than knowing your enemies.
