In June 2021, Collider reported that the voice cast for Zach Snyder’s Twilight of the Gods animated series had been announced. Included in the lineup is Walking Dead universe actress Lauren Cohan. Updates on the series have been null, but recently, Collider talked with Snyder, who gave the first update since the initial announcement in 2021.

"“It’s basically this: there’s a king and his queen in a small Viking village, and they want to get married. An event happens to them at their wedding that causes Sigrid, who is the bride to be, who is the child of giants, to go on a crazy mission of revenge. She enlists a cast of characters – a seer, a dwarf – and they come together to form a band that has this one mission to find a god and fight him. It’s a mission, it’s a revenge story. Sigrid is this beautiful, very Scandinavian kind of cold but passionate character that I’ve really enjoyed working through and with because she’s just so cool. Sylvia Hoeks voices her.”"

Twilight of the Gods is an animated series focusing on Norse mythology that is being developed for Netflix. Snyder’s Netflix original Army of the Dead was released with mostly positive reactions and will now move his focus from zombies to mythology. The new eight-episode series will see Snyder as writer and producer, and Jay Olivia, a DC storyboard artist, will direct and serve as showrunner. Snyder is known for including violence in his projects, and an animated series gives him a bit more freedom to add more. He stated the series will include “a lot of sex […] because that’s fun.”

As far as a release date, nothing is scheduled, but Snyder and Deborah Snyder, his wife and production partner, didn’t quite agree on the release year. During the Collider interview, the vague answer was sometime in 2024 or 2025. When pressed, Deborah Snyder replied, “End of the year,” but wasn’t certain as “They don’t have it dated yet, but we still don’t finish it until sometime this summer.”

Lauren Cohan is no stranger to voicing characters in a series

Before she was cast in Twilight of the Gods, Cohan’s voice can be heard on several other animated series. She voiced War Woman in Robert Kirkman’s Invincible and Juliana in Archer. In the animated stop-motion episode of The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who’s Walking, she voiced Maggie Rhee.

Next, Cohan will star in the second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City. This spinoff features Cohan’s Maggie Rhee & Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan. In the first season, the duo had to come together to resMaggie’s son Hershel (Logan Kim), who was abducted by a former Savior named The Croat (Željko Ivanek). AMC has made no official announcement regarding a filming start date for the second season.
