Nico Tortorella talks Younger’s season finale and World Beyond
By Renee Hansen
Our friend Brittany Frederick at Hidden Remote was fortunate to interview The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Younger cast member Nico Tortorella. They shared some great insight into what it was like to jump from an apocalyptic setting to a comedy-drama in their most recent projects.
Tortorella plays Felix in The Walking Dead spinoff The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Felix was the head of security at the Campus Colony in Omaha. In the series Younger, they play a tattoo artist Josh, who lives in Brooklyn. These two characters live in very different worlds and, because of that, experience quite different events.
Younger recently aired the final episode of its seven-series run. This has to be a bittersweet moment in the life of an actor. To say goodbye to someone you have portrayed but knowing that that character will always live on in the fans’ minds.
"I started this pandemic really coming straight off from playing Felix [Carlucci] in a post-apocalyptic world with zombies. Went straight into 2020. Went back to Josh, kind of said my goodbye to that character in that universe, then went straight back into Felix, and have been living in that universe for the last six months. I’m shooting the last couple episodes right now. I’m just so grateful to have had both characters to kind of channel that energy into."
Nico Tortorella’s first role in The Walking Dead Universe
When it was announced that there would be a second spinoff to the Walking Dead flagship series, fans were excited with the synopsis for this series. The story would follow a group of young adults who had been protected by walls since the beginning of the outbreak. The Walking Dead: World Beyond was set to be a limited series with two seasons.
The cast includes Tortorella’s Felix and Alexa Mansour and Aliyah Royale as sisters Hope and Iris. They are joined by Julia Ormond as Elizabeth Kublex, Annet Mahendru as Huck, Hal Cumpston as Silas and Nicolas Cantu as Elton. We also saw Felix reunited with his boyfriend Will (Jelani Alladin), who will also appear in season two.
There has been no announcement about the release of the second season of World Beyond. During the interview with Hidden Remote, Tortorella stated that he was filming the last couple of episodes. With the current TWDU schedule, this series could air between the first episodes of season 11 of The Walking Dead and the first episodes of FearTWD’s seventh season. This would be an awesome TWD trifecta, getting new episodes from all three series.
There hasn’t been any new information for the series besides adding one new character and one character who will get a recurring role. Max Osinski will play Dennis, a once dedicated soldier trying to create a new life. Lieutenant Frank Newton was featured in one episode of the first season and he will now be a recurring role in the second. He is played by Robert Palmer Watkins.
Undead Walking will share any new information on The Walking Dead: World Beyond as soon as we receive it.
