The Walking Dead: What Does Princess Mean To The Commonwealth?
Season 11 of The Walking Dead will be sure to hold some pretty damn intense scenes for every single character. During Season 10’s bonus episodes, we were able to see newcomer Princess (Paola Lázaro) put through a pretty rough time in 1020 “Splinter.” She was put through her paces by an overly aggressive Commonwealth officer. But what was their reasoning for such a harsh approach?
Not much is known about this extremely secretive community just yet, but that is sure to change. With the synopsis’ and titles for the first two episodes of Season 11 released, we now know we will be finding out more about this new group. They have a system for potentially ‘new’ members to join the group, which conveys the idea they are looking for very particular people to match their criteria.
We know from the comics that the Commonwealth runs a class tier system which the show may follow. Wanting to find out about people before accepting them into your home and community is perfectly fair. Still, the way Princess was treated during her interrogation was just damn right unreasonable. And the rest of the group didn’t have it easy either.
The Walking Dead, Princess and the Commonwealth?
Princess could hold several values to them, one being her fearless approach and bravery. In the comics, Princess embarks into a relationship with Commonwealth officer Mercer. The two are together before Princess (a.k.a Juanita Sanchez) decides that things aren’t right for her, and she leaves. Although after a time jump in the comics, the two seemed destined to be together and return to be a couple and live happily ever after… let’s hope Princess can have the same fairy-tale ending in the show!
We have previously seen that Princess likes the company of kind people that she can build bonds with, especially after being alone for so long. She is clearly loyal. It was heart-breaking for fans to hear about her tragic upbringing of violence and abuse. It’s time she had some good folks to surround her and give some much-needed company in this all too isolated world. So, seeing the soldiers beat and demand answers hasn’t set them off to the best of starts.
Princess can hold her own. She clearly has good weaponry skills and can be trusted. Although she came close to leaving Eugene, Yumiko and Ezekiel during “Splinter,” her morals were there to stand and fight for what is right. We saw (and heard) about some mental health problems she fights daily, but this really makes her even more of a strong individual as even before the apocalypse, she was a fighter.
It is super worrying that the last we saw of this group was all four captured with bags over their heads and restrained. I am praying that this doesn’t go on any longer than needed and that their fellow Alexandrians can help them ASAP or they get released. But the commonwealth will be sure to see the value they all hold, including Princess – who couldn’t love her!
I cannot wait to see more of her awesome character in future episodes when The Walking Dead returns August 22 on AMC, Star on Disney Plus August 23 for UK viewers.
