Fear the Walking Dead returned from their break with a major episode that shook the fan base to the core. It was an emotional look at what the world had done to John Dorie and how it all impacted Morgan’s vision for a future society.
Meanwhile, Virginia lost a lot of the power she once had but remained a huge threat to the survivors. Even if she didn’t have the presence of an army behind her, just being alive was enough to divide the survivors and cause a lot of tension that could explode at any moment.
Here are the named characters who died:
Marcus (Justin Smith) – Did he really think he could lasso Morgan and drag him away while riding his horse? Well, that’s just not going to happen with sharpshooter John Dorie around. Virginia’s high-ranking raider fell victim to Dorie’s accuracy and is shot in the head. His remains were buried.
John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt) – Losing a fan-favorite character is always tough, but it was also the way Dorie died that was heartbreaking. Having Dakota put a bullet in his chest and then put him in the water to bleed out was a terrible fate, especially for a character who brought so much hope to so many of his traveling companions since his introduction in season 4. June finding the zombified version of John washed up on shore makes it even more of a tear-jerking moment.
Other notable deaths
Any hope of Dakota redeeming herself died in this episode. While fans still have to thank her in some ways for patching up Morgan and getting him to safety, it is disappointing that she continues to make decisions that will make her more of a villain than Virginia ever was.
