Fans of The Walking Dead comics have longed for the day when they would see Mercer in the series. A few months ago, the announcement that Mercer had been cast created a buzz in the fandom. Michael James Shaw is the actor who will portray this character in the series.

As with any of the characters, it is never certain if the series will follow their comic story. In the comics, Mercer is an officer in the Commonwealth who served in US Marine Corp. before the outbreak. His military background enabled him to quickly climb the ranks, and he was bestowed the position of Chief Officer. He was also appointed as the head bodyguard for Pamela Milton, Governor of the Commonwealth, and her son Sebastian.

Another storyline for Mercer in the comics is his relationship with Princess. This is one story fans of the comics really hope the series will include.

The Walking Dead Michael James Shaw as Mercer

If you follow Shaw on IG, you will see a lot of great photos of his workouts. One of the most recent ones features himself with Prince Eke and Philip Fornah.

The comments suggest that the two guys pictured with Shaw will also have roles in the final season of The Walking Dead. Fornah has been a Whisperer in past episodes and does stunt work. You can also see him in the new Loki series. Eke is a Nigerian actor, film director, writer, television personality and model. Whatever their roles will be, it is exciting to see new faces for the series.

Shaw is really channeling the Mercer vibes in many of his IG photos, and there have been some BTS photos circulating on social media of Shaw in full Mercer gear.  If you are familiar with his comic book persona, this has to get you even more excited for this season.

The photo below shows Shaw in front of his trailer sporting a very Mercer-esque beard.

His character name is displayed on the door, and he uses the hashtag #Blessed.

It is always exciting to see iconic looks from the comic books translated to the series. King Ezekiel, Princess, Michonne are a few that come to mind that have been very well done. We can’t wait to see Mercer make his debut on the series.

The Walking Dead season 11 premiere will air on AMC on August 22.
