Sarah Wayne Callies will always be a part of TWD Family for her role in The Walking Dead series. She played Lori Grimes, wife of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and mother of Carl (Chandler Riggs) and Judith (Cailey Fleming). Deadline has reported that Callies has written, directed and stars in a post-apocalyptic podcast, Aftershock.

The podcast was created for iHeartMedia that will launch on July 14. Aftershock, a dramatic thriller, is set in Los Angeles after the largest earthquake in US history has occurred. The earthquake has caused an island to form off the coast of LA. The quake has killed hundreds of thousands of people, and many are still unaccounted for.

The podcast also stars three of Callies fellow Walking Dead actors, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Austin Amelio and Tovah Feldshuh. They are joined by Stranger Things’ David Harbour, Tati Gabrielle, Janel Parrish, Russell Hornsby, Rockmond Dunbar, Bethany Joy Lenz, Michael O’Neill,  and EJ Bonilla.

Callies grew up on the Hawaiian islands, and this story is what it would look like if a new island would appear. What type of people would go to this island? What would force them to go? People who are running from something or perhaps running to something new.

In the series, Callies character Cassie Wallace must travel to the island to locate her daughter, who is stranded there. She is joined by Harbour’s character Wayne Sharpe as they make the dangerous trek. The island is already overrun with doomsday preppers, indigenous activists and a utopian cult, all of whom want to claim the island for themselves.

Callies told Deadline:

"At its heart, it’s a story about forgiveness and second chances"

Jeffery Dean Morgan had this to say about the series

"Aftershock is a labor of love…we were able to produce an exciting and unique podcast filled with unexpected turns. It was a real pleasure supporting Sarah in this creative adventure and I can’t wait for folks to give it a listen.”"

The series was recorded during the pandemic, and Callies felt so much support from everyone involved. You can listen to the thrilling trailer below.
