Cliff Curtis starred in Fear the Walking Dead as Travis Manawa from the pilot episode until his death in season three. Many fans were saddened at the loss of this character as he was a leveled headed person who had grown from a man who avoided conflict into a powerful fighter. Now Curtis has been cast in a new project for Netflix.

Deadline has reported that Curtis has been cast alongside Anna Paquin and Josh Lawson in the family film True Spirit. This film is based on the true story of Jessica Watson, an Australian girl who, at the age of 16, sailed solo around the world. She is the youngest person to complete this feat, unassisted and nonstop for 210 days.

Teagan Croft was announced previously as the actress who would play Watson. With Watson herself consulting for the film. Paquin will play her mother Julie and Lawson, her father, Roger. Curtis will portray her coach Ben Bryant.

The film is scheduled to start production later in 2021 with filming in Queensland and Sydney, Australia.

True Spirit will mark the sixth project for Curtis since leaving Fear the Walking Dead. You can see him in The Meg, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Doctor Sleep, Murina and Reminiscence.

Another huge project for Curtis is the Avatar movies, where he is cast as Tonowari. It is rumored that his abrupt death and departure on Fear the Walking Dead was partly due to his role in these movies. Committing to a project of this magnitude would be difficult to handle, along with a regular series. There will be five movies in the Avatar franchise, the first was released in 2009, and the second is scheduled for a release date of December 2022. Curtis has been cast for the remaining four films.
