Merritt Wever played Denise in season six of The Walking Dead. She was a resident of Alexandria who took over as the doctor for the community when Pete was killed. Since she departed from the series, she has been a busy gal. Deadline is reporting that she has now signed on to the indie project Midday Black Midnight Blue.

Wever will join the previously announced cast of Will Pullen, Samantha Soule, Dale Soules, Shane McRae, Chris Stack and McCaleb Burnett. This will be a feature debut for Soule and Daniel Talbott, where they serve as writers and directors.

The setting of the film is Puget Sound, where Ian (Stack) lives in isolation. He spends his days grieving over a woman he loved dearly, Liv (Soule), who died many years prior. Beth (Wever) is Liv’s sister and sees how far Ian has fallen by his overwhelming grief as she struggles with her own ghosts. As Ian struggles with his emotions, he knows he must let go before his life grows even darker, even if it kills him.

Merritt Wever’s other roles

While researching this article, I was shocked to be reminded that Wever was only on The Walking Dead for 9 episodes. I felt like her character was around for quite some time and that her character had a larger impact in that short period of time.

Before coming to The Walking Dead, you may remember seeing Wever in many other roles. She has been acting since she was 15. Some of the movies and shows you may remember her from Signs, Law & Order, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Into the Wild and New Girl.

She won an Emmy for her role as Zoey Barkow on the tv series Nurse Jackie. This character is a favorite of mine. Zoey’s enthusiasm and comedic timing is a great balm to Jackie’s (Edie Falco) negative and gruff persona.

In the tv mini-series Godless, Wever plays Mary Agnes McNue, a leader in the female-dominated town. A role for which she also won an Emmy.

In addition to Midday Black Midnight Blue, she will star in an upcoming series called Roar. This series is an anthology series featuring “darkly comic feminist fables.”

It will be great to see Merrit Wever in these new roles.
