Avoid cities altogether if you think a zombie outbreak is coming.

That’s the single most important thing you can do for yourself when it comes to cities in a zombie apocalypse. More important than arming yourself, more important than finding shelter, even more important than finding food. The greatest thing you can do for yourself is avoid the most dangerous places in a zombie apocalypse.

If you’re wondering why, once again, it comes down to numbers. Just look at how loaded with zombies cities like Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Washington have been shown to be in The Walking Dead. If Boston’s nearly 700,000 people were a potential danger of becoming a huge swarm of zombies, those cities would be just as bad, if not worse. If you have even something like 50,000 zombies, that’s still horrifying; just imagine how much worse having something like one hundred, two hundred thousand or more would be.

To minimize the chances of running into this threat, your best course of action, should you have reason to believe a zombie apocalypse is emerging in your local city, is to get out of or avoid that city as soon as you can. Lingering around or frequently going in only ups your chances of getting caught when the outbreak hits. Look at it this way: If you suspect something bad will happen in a certain place, would you stay in or go to that place? Of course not.

So, as absurdly simple as it might sound, your smartest move is to simply avoid cities as best as possible if you think you’re walking into a Walking Dead situation.

Next. Boston Would Be TERRIBLE In The Walking Dead. dark

The simple nature of cities — Specifically their large concentrations of people in a relatively small area — makes them dangerous in a zombie apocalypse, putting people near a potentially large population of zombies. Their roads, enclosed by blocks and bound by their own traffic restrictions, can quickly become chokepoints, trapping the living in with the dead and only serving to increase their numbers. Even the advantages of cities become outweighed by their weaknesses in the apocalypse, and that’s why you should avoid them if you think a zombie outbreak is happening.
