As The Walking Dead’s final season’s premiere date looms near, fans and cast are looking back at earlier seasons with fond memories. Many fans will say seasons 1-3 were the best of the series. Jon Bernthal, who played Shane Walsh in the series, retweeted a fan’s photo of the cast during the season 2 storyline at Hershel’s farm.

The fan @ElmaCarylTWD tweeted the photo of the cast during season 2 as they sat on the porch of the Greene Family’s home. The fan’s caption said, “I miss this group together,” Bernthal’s response, “Me too.” This is a sweet and touching post to which Laurie Holden (Andrea) responded, “You do??????”  Holden’s comment was then removed. It’s not clear if she was being snarky or what.

During seasons 1-3, we got to know the main cast and suffered their losses and disappointments, and celebrated their triumphs. The group was smaller, which made for a more intimate story making us feel more connected to the characters.

When the other communities started to be revealed, we lost that intimacy, even though many great characters were introduced. Sadly, many characters have had to be pushed into the background, characters who could really shine if given a chance.

The Walking Dead final season

Fans have been speculating on whether or not the final season will see the appearance of former characters who have died or left the series. Of course, most everyone wants to see Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) feeling that he IS The Walking Dead. Other characters like Carl (Chandler Riggs), Shane (Bernthal), Beth (Emily Kinney), Glen (Stephen Yeun), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and others have been mentioned as favorites to re-appear.

Cudlitz has been on set, presumably in the director’s seat, but his character could pop up in a dream or something. The appearance of any of the former characters is a possibility and an exciting one at that. It would be great to see one last glimpse of some of the greats.
