In 1968, George A. Romero broke new ground in horror when he set the bar for the zombie genre. Night of the Living Dead was released on October 1, 1968, at the Fulton Theater in Pittsburgh. The film was released with some controversy, but years later, it has stood the test of time and serves as a huge influence in the horror community.

Now, Night of the Living Dead will see a new version of this cult classic. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has created Night of the Animated Dead, and it is exactly what it sounds like, an animated version of Romero’s work. The original story was written by Romero and John Russo and the animated version is directed by Jason Axinn (To Your Last Death).

An interesting Walking Dead tie to Romero is that Greg Nicotero had his first major job on Romero’s 1985 film Day of the Dead. During the filming of that movie, he was able to learn from Romero and SFX veteran Tom Savini.
