Colman Domingo featured in Candyman teaser + release date and more
By Renee Hansen
Horror fans have been waiting for what seems like forever for the Candyman release. Like many other films and shows, the pandemic has slowed down and delayed many productions, including this highly anticipated film. The film that Jordan Peele has produced shared an exclusive clip with The Root that features Fear the Walking Dead’s Colman Domingo in his role as William Burke.
You will need to go to The Root’s page to view the actual clip, but I am here to say this has me even more hyped for this film. The clip gives an origin story of sorts regarding the man with a hook for a hand who lived in the walls of the dilapidated Cabrini towers and gave candy to kids. Once a razor blade showed up in a white girl’s Halloween candy, and one time William saw the Candyman emerge from the walls of the building.
This film is a direct sequel to the original Candyman from 1992. Jordan Peele, Nia DaCosta and Win Rosenfield wrote the screenplay and DaCosta also directs. This film is a fresh take on the urban legend of the Candyman, a supernatural killer who is summoned by saying his name five times while looking in a mirror.
Candyman release date
Whether you choose to say his name or not, you can’t stop him from coming to theaters this month. Candyman will release in theaters on August 27. Horror fans are stoked for the release of this film and other horror films that had to be postponed because of the pandemic.
Candyman Cast
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Colman Domingo and Kyle Kaminsky. Vanessa Williams and Tony Todd will reprise their roles from the original 1992 film.
Candyman synopsis
The official synopsis from Universal Pictures:
"For as long as the residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood were terrorized by the word-of-mouth ghost story about the supernatural killer Daniel Robitaille, aka the Candyman, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In the present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, a visual artist named Anthony McCoy and his girlfriend, an art gallery director named Brianna Cartwright, moved into a luxurious loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by the upwardly mobile millennials. With Anthony’s painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini Green old-timer exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind the Candyman.Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes the terrifyingly viral wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with his destiny."
