The Walking Dead’s Angela Kang talks about Commonwealth characters
By Renee Hansen
We know we will encounter many new faces as we head into season 11 of The Walking Dead. The majority of these new characters will be featured in a new community known as the Commonwealth. This community is featured in the comics, and we saw a glimpse of their military force in season 10c.
The Commonwealth is a highly advanced community that has made major progress in restoring many amenities there were seen before the outbreak. Because of this, they are a large community that is well organized and has advanced security in place.
Entertainment Weekly interviewed showrunner Angela Kang, and they discussed some of the new characters of the Commonwealth.
The Walking Dead Commonwealth characters
Mercer- One character comic book fans have been very excited to see on the screen is Mercer. He is the leader of the Commonwealth army and is an impressive-looking specimen. He is being played by Michael James Shaw, who is also impressively looking. Kang stated in the interview that he has a real sense of toughness but also processes tenderness.
Pamela Milton – this character is the Governor of the Commonwealth who believes her high ranking status before the outbreak places her above everyone else. Social status is something she places high importance on. Laila Robins will play this character. Kang shared that they have built an interesting back story for Pamela, but she won’t be introduced right away.
Sebastian Milton is Pamela’s son, and Kang states that he will be met first. We have heard no news of who is cast as this character.
Lance Hornsby – Josh Hamilton was announced as being cast as Lance Hornsby, the Deputy Governor to Milton. The series will have its own take on this character, so that will be interesting to see.
Ian Anthony Dale has also been cast as Tomi with an interesting theory around his character.
There will be many other Commonwealth characters as the season progresses. These are the ones that have been announced so far.
We will see Eugene, Yumkio, Ezekiel and Princess as they are being held and interrogated by the Commonwealth soldiers. Below are some of the new photos that have been released for the new episodes.
What will hold for the four captives is anyone’s guess. So far, the Commonwealth does seem too accommodating. But, to ensure the safety of their residents, they need to have certain safety precautions in place.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC THIS Sunday, August 22, for the first episode of season 11.
