The Walking Dead is a series set in an apocalypse filled with the undead whose goal is to feed on those still alive. That means there have been MANY deaths over the course of the 10 seasons. Going into the eleventh and final season, we will see more deaths yet. One death fans, understandably, can’t get over is Glenn Rhee’s. He was bludgeoned to death by Negan and his weapon of choice, a barbed wire-wrapped bat named Lucille. While this was a horrific death, someone else died that day in the same tragic way.

Abraham Ford, a manly man if there ever was one. One who would defend and protect until his dying breath. A man who would look death in the eye, and after it had already bashed his skull in once, would tell it to suck his nuts, while two women who loved him dearly watched in horror as his brains were repeated bashed to oblivion until death took him.

Yet, we only talk about Maggie and her trauma, hurt, pain, and suffering because of her loss. We excuse her behavior because of this loss and feel bad that she must live next to the man who caused her the ultimate suffering.

The Walking Dead – Rosita’s suffering

Sadly, Sasha is gone. Or this would also be about her and what she had to endure.

Rosita Espinosa lost someone she deeply loved during Negan’s lineup. She had to watch as Abraham, brave as ever, realizing he would be the chosen one, as he stared down his executioner before he took the first blow. He then rose up again to utter one last retort before Negan bashed his brains into the ground. Negan then taunted her with Lucille, covered in Abraham’s blood and brain matter.

Perhaps fans weren’t as invested in the relationship between Abraham and Rosita since the series didn’t follow their meeting from the beginning. Their relationship was different because they were two very different people from Glenn and Maggie. This doesn’t belittle the grief Rosita experienced because of her loss.

After losing Abraham, she became reckless and hell-bent on revenge. Rosita made some poor choices and pushed people away. She planned on killing Negan, and her plan failed.

When Eugene sabotaged the Savior’s weapons, she forgave Eugene for joining the Saviors. This is also when Rick sliced open Negan’s throat and threw him in the jail cell. Rosita experienced a turning point during this time and decided to live a life where Negan didn’t live rent-free in her mind.

She has gone on to become a leader and a fighter while raising an infant during an apocalypse, all while living in the same community as the man who brutally murdered the man she loved.

People grieve in different ways, and that is good and well. But, the fandom seems to have forgotten that Abraham also died that day, and Rosita lost someone she loved. This grief, though experienced very differently, was just as great as Maggies and worthy of remembrance.
