The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week: The Old Rules Don’t Apply
By Liam O'Leary
The Walking Dead does not discriminate
In the second episode of The Walking Dead, we saw Merle being a racist meth-head jerk, beating up T-Dog, only to be stopped by Rick, who told him “…There’s only white meat, and dark meat”, and…he wasn’t wrong. The dead, being dead, don’t give a damn about what our skin color is, (They can’t recognize it on a cognitive level!) they just see us as food.
The reason I say this is because I can’t imagine at least some people not attacking others because they’re of X race or Y race or have X skin tone or Y skin tone: It’s going to happen. That said, because it’s a zombie apocalypse, it’s even more senseless than it is right now.
Honestly, do you think your race or ethnicity, or skin color will somehow stop the dead from pursuing you? Stop them from eating you? I hope not because that would be ridiculous. Zombies will eat people from one race or ethnicity just as certainly as they will eat any others. If you make a point of attacking people based on that, you’re just cutting down the number of living people who could help you fight the dead, who, need I remind you, will outnumber both you and the other people by a very large margin, all for something that the dead won’t care about anyway!
In a zombie apocalypse, the only skin color people should be concerned with is gray because then, you know that the person you’re dealing with isn’t alive anymore.
And that’s our Survival Rule Of The Week! When the walking dead arises, many of the old rules people think are so important…won’t be anymore. In their place will be a whole new set of rules, some of which will be tougher for people to come to grips with than others. If you want to learn these rules before the dead start walking, why not pick up a copy of my book, The Rules: A Guide To Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse!
